Oct. 31~ Nov. 4

** Because it is the end of the trimester we will have very little homework this week (please see below for the assignments).
** Along with wearing PJs on Monday, kiddos may bring a stuffed animal. No slippers please. 
** A huge thank you to all who donated treats for our fun centers on Monday.  The kiddos will greatly appreciate them! :)
** Those of you who have Success Academy kiddos; there will be no academy the week of November 14~18.  We will resume the week of November 28. :)

What Are We Learning This Week?
Math: Topic 4~ Fluently adding within 100.
4.5~ 4.7: Using mental math strategies, drawings, models and equations to add three or four 2-digit numbers.
Science: Habitats: How do plants, animals, and people live in their habitat? Researching new habitat~ wetlands.
Leadership: ROAR song & prepping for our Thur. assembly.
Reading:  Money Matters.
Language: Identify the main purpose of a text; using text features to locate facts and using words and phrases.
Writing: Writing an opinion statement & paragraph and providing reasons for the opinion.
Conventions: Commas

* Thank you to all of the wonderful parents who joined us on our fun adventure to Oak Glen Preserve. We so greatly appreciate all of your help, patience & hard work.
* An enormous thank you to Mr. Dishner, Mrs. Tyree and Mrs. Perry for making the hike a special adventure for Group 1. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your strength, team work and perseverance.

What Are We Learning This Week?
Math: Topic 4~ Fluently adding within 100.
4.1~ 4.4: Adding using place value and partial sums, modeling to add 2-digit numbers, adding 2-digit numbers & explaining the work.
Science: Habitats: How do plants, animals, and people live in their habitat? Reviewing forest habitat assignment & field trip. Introducing new habitat~ wetlands.
Leadership: ROAR song & prepping for our assembly.
Reading:  Alexander, Who Use to Be Rich Last Sunday & A Chair for My Mother.
Language: Illustrations, compare points of view and compare characters.
Writing: Describing characters' responses & choices, using sequence words, & revising by adding descriptive details.
Conventions: Plural possessives, verbs, & compound sentences. 
Phonics Skill: Digraphs ar, or, ore, oar. Some words we learn by remembering the letters. Other words we can sound out. We can blend longer words with /ar/ and /or/ by dividing them into syllables. When a two-syllable word has two consonants in the middle, we usually divide the word into syllables between the two consonants. Read one syllables at a time and then say them together.

Math: Topic 3.7 ~ 3.9: Adding using strategies, solving 1-2 step problems, using appropriate tools, chapter review & unit assessment.
Science: Habitats: How do plants, animals, and people live in their habitat? Completing forest habitat assignment.
Leadership: ROAR song & prepping for our assembly.
Reading:  Alexander, Who Use to Be Rich Last Sunday & A Chair for My Mother.
Language: Story structure, character, message & illustrations.
Writing: Write a new idea for characters in a story, write a new ending, write a dialogue between two characters, strengthen dialogue and create a character web.
Conventions: Simple sentences: subject/predicate, adjectives and adverbs in simple sentences. 
Phonics Skill: Digraphs ar, or, ore, oar.

What Are We Learning This Week?
Math: Topic 3.4- 3.8: Breaking apart numbers to add, using compensation, adding using strategies, and solving 1-2 step problems.
Science: Habitats: How do plants, animals, and people live in their habitat? Researching the forest habitat.
Leadership: ROAR song & prepping for our assembly.
Reading:  Alexander, Who Use to Be Rich Last Sunday & A Chair for My Mother.
Language: Story structure, using illustrations, analyze character & character.
Writing: Write about a character's actions, write how illustrations show character, write a narrative for an event, write a new beginning & write a dialogue.
Conventions: Singular possessives & possessive pronouns. 
Phonics Skill: Digraphs ch, tch, sh, th, wh. (The sound /ch/ may be spelled ch or tch. The digraph tch never begins a word. When a consonant digraph appears with another consonant, the sound of the digraph and the sound of the consonant are blended together).
