What Are We Learning This Week?
Math: Working with Equal Groups: modeling problems using equations, drawings, arrays and bar diagrams. Reviewing the unit & assessing on Thursday.
Science: States of matter: Review game & final test
Leadership: ROAR matrix & healthy habits
Reading:  Friends Around the World & The House on Maple Street
Language: Identify & define key words, use of a glossary, story structure, setting & author's purpose
Writing: Write specific information using key words, using linking words to connect ideas, write an informational paragraph, conduct research, write sentences using descriptive details
Conventions: Adverbs 
Phonics Skill: Endings: -s, -ed, -ing (When a word ends in a short vowel and one consonant, we double the consonant before adding -ed and -ing. We do not double the consonant before adding -s. We drop the final e before adding -ed or -ing to words ending in e).

snap (snaps, snapped, snapping)
rub (rubs, rubbed, rubbing)
pick (picks, picked, picking)
jump (jumps, jumped, jumping)

September 19~ 23

What Are We Learning This Week?
Math: Working with Equal Groups: using different ways to tell if a group of objects shows an even or odd number, finding the total number of objects in a set of rows & columns (arrays) & making arrays to solve addition problems.
Science: States of matter: Hot Air Balloon Challenge
Leadership: ROAR matrix & healthy habits
Reading:  Friends Around the World
Language: Text features, main topic, identify main idea, key details, steps in a process & captions
Writing: Writing a caption, describing a place using facts, writing questions about a topic, author's purpose & writing a paragraph with facts.
Conventions: Adjectives 
Phonics Skill: Consonant blends. (Remind kiddos that when two or three consonants are together in a word, we blend the sounds together to read the word).
Phonics Skill Words: Review week. No new words.



Homework~
1.) Read 20 minutes daily & fill out reading log (due Friday)
2.) Math sheet (due the next day) 
3.) Writing Journal 
Monday: Brainstorming~ Kiddos will brainstorm a topic for the week and create a bubble map describing their topic. We will review this Monday.

Tuesday: Rough Draft~ Kiddos use the information from their bubble map to create a rough draft. Should be a minimum of half of the journal page. We will review on Tuesday. 

Wednesday: Editing~ Kiddos will use a pen to revise and edit their rough draft.  Kiddos should capitalize the first word of each sentence, use proper nouns and to punctuate properly.  If your kiddo is struggling spelling a word have him/her sound it out and do the best he/she can phonetically.

Thursday: Final Draft~ Students will use their best penmanship to create a final draft of their story. 

 Friday:  Journal entry due.
