A huge thank you to Emmalyne and Odyssea's moms for donating goodies for our treasure box. Another huge thank you to Andrew's mom for donating treasure box items and much needed school supplies. The kiddos and I greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness & generosity.

Dinosaur Museum Exhibit Assignment~ The next at- home portion of the dinosaur project is to create a model of your kiddo's dinosaur and its habitat. The most common way to do this is a shoe box diorama. Please see the project rubric for the criteria in this area. Labelling of the diorama (the name of their dinosaur and the meaning of its name) is needed to get a 3 or higher. Also, please be sure to have your child’s name clearly marked on the project. Grading of this portion is closely related to the amount of effort put into creating it (scenery, details, labels, etc.). This is not due until February 25th. I am asking that kiddos not bring in their projects early if they are finished. We do not have the space or the storage for 21 projects. Thank you for your understanding.
2nd Grade Community Service Project ~ Pennies for Peace
From February 1 to March 17, the 2nd grade team's community service class project is collecting pennies (or any change) for Pennies for Peace. This is a wonderful project because almost everyone can collect pennies or change! Our goal is to collect pennies/change while learning important lessons about cultural understanding, experiencing the rewards of sharing and working together to bring hope and educational opportunities to children in Central Asia.
A penny in the United States may have little worth however in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tajikistan just a few pennies can buy a pencil and open the door to literacy. Pennies for Peace is a meaningful way for our kiddos to have an immediate impact in a region of the world where education can mean hope, possibilities and peace.
On Monday, February 1 your kiddo will bring home a sandwich bag with a Pennies for Peace label and his/her name on it. Over the next several weeks, please have your kiddo use the baggie to collect pennies/change and then drop the change into our classroom container. We have a competition with the CSC 2nd grade team. Whoever donates the most change wins a popcorn party. LETS GO BSC TEAM!
